Reflecting on 2024: A Season of Gratitude and Advocacy

As 2024 draws to a close and we settle into the quiet beauty of winter, the Friends of Kentucky Libraries would like to take a moment to reflect on the past year and extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who support our mission of strengthening libraries across the Commonwealth.

This year has been a testament to the incredible work of our members, local Friends chapters, and library advocates. Together, we have mentored emerging chapters, facilitated meaningful connections with legislators through Meet & Greets, supported the Sister Library Program, and participated in efforts to broaden the awareness of just how essential libraries are to our communities. These efforts, among many others, ensure that Kentucky continues to have strong libraries and engaged communities.

As we look ahead to 2025, we are especially excited about the upcoming Library Legislative Day in Frankfort on Thursday, February 11. This annual event is a powerful opportunity to advocate for libraries by meeting with our state representatives and senators. Friends groups will manage registration and deliver a sweet gesture of appreciation—packages of M&Ms—to our legislators. If you’ve never participated before, we encourage you to join us! Your voice makes a big impression, and your support helps advance the cause of libraries statewide.

In this season of giving and renewal, we also want to remind you of the ways you can make a difference. Consider joining or renewing your membership with the Friends of Kentucky Libraries at friendskylibraries.org/join. We’re always looking for passionate advocates to serve on our Board of Directors and to contribute to the important work of supporting libraries.

As the new year approaches, let us embrace the promise of fresh beginnings and continue working together to empower libraries—the heart of our communities. From everyone at the Friends of Kentucky Libraries, we wish you a joyous holiday season filled with warmth, peace, and the love of a good book. Here’s to a bright 2025!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
