Friends,
The Legislative Library Day at the Capitol, sponsored by the KY Public Library Association, is scheduled for the morning of February 15. I hope you can make this important library event.
If you can make it, please coordinate with your library director to see if appointments with your state legislators have been made. It really helps in these meetings to have some enthusiastic Friends there with library staffers–and trustees.
The plan is for library advocates attending Legislative Library Day to meet in the cafeteria in the basement of the Capitol Annex and to register. You will need a photo id to get in to the building and you should allow a little extra time to go through security. We (the FKL board members) will do registration for the event and pass out to those attending small packets of yellow “library” m&ms that each library delegation can give to their legislators. (see attachment) At this time, that will be the main task-visiting with legislators. We will hold registration open through lunch.
Both breakfast and lunch are good in the cafeteria and it is a chance to greet legislators as they come through the cafeteria! To be more visible, yellow is the color for Legislative Day so wear something yellow–shirt, scarf, tie etc.
If you plan to come in the night prior to Legislative Day or are close enough to come over for the evening of Feb 14, KPLA will host a brief orientation session at the Paul Sawyier Public Library’s River Room at 4 pm. The KPLA lobbyist will be there to update us on any proposed legislation that affects libraries.
